Cookie Policy
This page explains the cookies and comparable technologies in use across stormwick.com, the reasons we rely on them, and the options you have for managing them. It is aligned with the ePrivacy Directive (2002/58/EC) and the GDPR.

1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website places in your browser the moment you visit. By storing it, the site can recall what you did and what you chose — things like whether you are signed in, your language, your currency, or what is sitting in your cart — so those details survive from one visit to the next and you need not key them in again. Related technologies, including local storage, session storage and pixel tags, serve much the same purpose. Throughout this policy, “cookies” is used as a convenient label that covers all of them.
2. How StormWick uses cookies
We rely on a compact, deliberately limited set of cookies: to keep the store running, to protect it, to hold on to your preferences, and — strictly after you have agreed — to gauge how the site is used so that we can keep improving it. We never use cookies to assemble advertising profiles, and no information gathered through cookies is ever sold.
Cookies fall into two pairs of types. Some are first-party, meaning stormwick.com sets them directly, while others are third-party, set by a service we depend on such as a payment processor or a content delivery network. Separately, some are session cookies that vanish once you shut your browser, and others are persistent cookies that remain for a set length of time.
3. The categories of cookies we use
Our cookies are organised into four groups. The first group is needed for the site to run at all and, under Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive, is therefore not subject to the consent rule. The remaining three groups are activated only once you have granted permission through the cookie banner.
4. Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies form the backbone of the site. Without them you could not safely browse the catalogue, place items in your cart, or finish a purchase. For that reason, they cannot be turned off through our cookie settings.
Examples
- woocommerce_cart_hash, woocommerce_items_in_cart, wp_woocommerce_session_* — retain what is in your shopping cart as you move between pages.
- wordpress_logged_in_*, wordpress_sec_* — keep you signed in to your StormWick account.
- stormwickchat:v2:token — a randomly generated identifier held in your browser so our live-chat assistant can follow the thread of a conversation. Nothing personal is transmitted unless you supply it yourself.
- cf_clearance, __cf_bm — placed by our infrastructure partner (Cloudflare) to curb abuse and automated bot traffic.
- stormwick-consent — records the cookie choices you have made, sparing you from being asked on every visit.
Lifetime: session, or up to one year, varying by cookie. Legal basis: strictly necessary; no consent required.
5. Functional cookies
Functional cookies make the experience smoother by recalling the selections you have made — for instance, the currency you favour or products you looked at recently. The store continues to function without them, though it feels less tailored to you.
Examples
- Saved preferences such as currency, language, or how product lists are displayed (grid or list view).
- Products viewed recently and items you added to a wishlist while shopping as a guest.
Lifetime: up to 12 months. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
6. Analytics cookies
Analytics cookies give us a picture of which pages draw the most interest, where our visitors arrive from, and how the site behaves overall. Their sole purpose is to help us refine StormWick; we do not construct individual advertising profiles from them.
Wherever feasible we lean toward privacy-conscious analytics — server-side or self-hosted, with IP addresses anonymised. The results are held in aggregate form, carrying no identifiers that could single you out directly.
Lifetime: up to 13 months. Legal basis: your consent.
7. Marketing cookies
Should we run marketing activity — say, retargeting on social channels or checking how well a partner link performs — the related marketing cookies are placed only once you have consented. They let us and our partners recognise that you have been to StormWick and connect a subsequent purchase to a particular campaign.
At present, StormWick does not load advertising-network cookies by default. If that ever changes, the complete roster of marketing cookies and the providers behind them will be added to this policy and surfaced in the cookie banner.
Lifetime: up to 13 months. Legal basis: your consent.
8. Third-party services that may set cookies
Certain features on StormWick are powered by trusted outside providers. When you engage with these features, the provider may set cookies of its own, governed by that provider’s own privacy and cookie policies. We have no control over those cookies, so we suggest reading the relevant provider’s policy directly.
- Payment providers — for fraud detection and 3-D Secure steps during checkout.
- Cloudflare — for content delivery, caching, and bot protection.
- YouTube / Vimeo embeds — only on pages that include an embedded video, and only once you press play (we use privacy-enhanced mode where it is offered).
- Live-chat / AI assistant — a first-party token only; this feature sets no third-party cookies.
9. How to manage your cookies
9.1 StormWick cookie settings
You may grant, adjust, or revoke consent whenever you wish by selecting the “Cookie settings” link found in the footer of every page. Your decision is kept in the stormwick-consent cookie and takes effect across the whole of stormwick.com.
9.2 Browser controls
Most browsers allow you to block, remove, or be alerted about cookies via their own settings. The precise procedure varies from one browser to another:
- Google Chrome
- Mozilla Firefox
- Apple Safari
- Microsoft Edge
Be aware that switching off strictly necessary cookies in your browser will disable core functionality, such as adding items to the cart or remaining signed in.
10. Do Not Track
Certain browsers transmit a “Do Not Track” (DNT) signal. Because no common, industry-wide standard exists for how sites ought to respond to DNT, we instead respect your wishes through the cookie banner, which offers a clear and fine-grained way to opt in to or out of non-essential categories.
11. Changes to this policy
From time to time we may revise this Cookies Policy — for example, when a new feature launches or a provider changes. The “Last updated” date shown at the top of the page always points to the current version, and we encourage you to look in on this page now and then.
